Trolling Vancouver for Witches

A few months ago my radio group was approached about a contest promoting The CW's 'Vampire Diaries' and their NEW show 'The Secret Circle'. This contest would place DJs from cities across the US against one another for a trip to Vancouver Canada to visit with the cast on the set of The Secret Circle. The contest consists of photos of our DJ in their best Vampire attire, and a short audio clip of their best Vamp-voice (script included of course).

Bree is the mid-day girl on Mix 107.9 and was a perfect choice. (When it comes to The CW's Thursday night line-up Bree is a bit of a "fan girl") I arranged for a make up artist and photographer to meet at an 'undisclosed location' (IE: a friends living room) and here is what we submitted.

The country voted for their DJs and Salt Lake City won by a landslide (apparently). I attribute the bombardment of votes to our history of Twilight fans. (Stephanie Meyer having gone to school in Utah, fans here feel “connected” to her) but I digress.

Months had passed before the station was told the results of the contest. Then one random Wednesday afternoon Bree received an email inviting her and a guest to the studio in Canada to visit the set and film some segments promoting the show. Bree asked me to be her partner in Canadian crime and we found ourselves on a plane the following Tuesday.

Despite the rain we were happy to find Vancouver warmer than when we left Utah. Our taxi driver had a lot to say about the hotel we were booked at. “Anyone who is anyone stays at the Sutton Place Hotel”. I guess John Travolta was in town recently and had made quite an impression.

That evening we roamed the streets of Vancouver dinning, shopping, etc.

Bree's new fortress of Solitude.

The next morning we met with our publicity rep from the CW and were driven to the lot where the show is filmed. We learned these are the same stages where Smallville was filmed years earlier (Stages 7 & 1). We were whisked away to Stage 7 to meet our film crew who would be following our every move. Along the way we passed stages 2-6 where Fox's new series ‘Alcatraz’ was filming. After some quick direction we were let loose on Stage 7 to poke and prod each scene. The stage we were in houses each character’s bedroom and the first floor of Jane’s house (the main character’s mother).

We inspected each room in the house. I even left my business card on the desk in their office (a little Easter Egg for me).

After a few hours roaming we found our way to Stage 1 where they were filming that day. If you watch the show, Stage 1 houses the Abandon House, Garage, and High School Hallways. The stage was buzzing with activity. To set up today’s filming we learned Shelley Hennig’s character Diana has arranged a school dance/casino night to raise money to fix the school’s gym that Faye had damaged in a fire she created. We watched as the school hallways were flooded with students and teachers alike enjoying their “mocktails” and gambling the night away. Diana’s character interacts with a new student (who may be a new love interest)

Of course we were not allowed to take any photos inside while they were filming, sorry.

Shelley Hannig (Diana Meade)

Chris Zylka (Jake Armstrong)

Jessica Parker Kennedy (Melissa Glaser)

Grey Damon (Lee LaBeue)

We broke for lunch and hung out with the cast. We interviewed Shelley Hennig for the radio station, schmoozed, snapped a few pics, and filmed some closing segments for this promo thing that will play on the CW later. We said our goodbyes and were whisked back to our hotel for drinks and dinner. The next morning we flew back to Utah and found ourselves back at work within hours like nothing happened at all. Oh the cleverness of me!

Watch your mouth

Something DJ Latu said today reminded me of this list. It's been a minute since I've published this so I thought it's time to dust it off and post it again! If you're a DJ, or have ever played music publicly you'll understand. This list is not in any particular order. Here goes...

Educate yourself on what NEVER to say to the DJ!

1. PLAY SOMETHING GOOD, SOMETHING WE CAN DANCE TO!
2. WOULD YOU PLAY SOMETHING WITH A "BEAT"?
3. I DON'T KNOW WHO SINGS IT AND I DON'T KNOW THE NAME OF THE SONG…
4. “EVERYBODY” WANTS TO HEAR THIS!
5. “NOBODY” WANTS TO HEAR THIS
5. “EVERYBODY” WILL DANCE IF YOU PLAY IT!
6. I WANT TO HEAR IT NEXT!
7. WHAT DO YOU HAVE?
8. HEY, “NOBODY” CAN DANCE TO THIS!
9. PLAY IT SOON BECAUSE WE'RE LEAVING!
10. PLEASE PLAY "**********", IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!
11. WHEN WILL YOU PLAY IT?
12. CAN YOU PLEASE PLAY IT AGAIN?
13. CAN YOU PLAY # *** ON ***’S CD?
14. WILL YOU PLAY THIS SONG ON MY IPOD?
15. CAN I LEAVE MY COAT HERE?
16. HEY, LET ME SPIT ON THE MIC?

I must have a lot of faith in the human race because I'm often amazed at some of the things that come out of people's mouths.

REMINDER: Opinions are not FACT, and you're not the only one here.

If you or someone you know is guilty of asking/demanding any of these posts listed above, help us set them straight and we can all have a better time.

Things to never say @ the DJ Music Video!

I would break stuff too!

Today’s blurb (okay, I guess it’s a rant) stems from a post made by the afternoon DJ "Bree" on Mix 107.9's FB page:

"Rihanna wants everyone to lay off Chris Brown, his new album debuted at #1, he apologized for his recent behavior... what would it take for you to re-embrace him?"

Instead of bombarding their wall with my harsh tone, which isn't want she was looking for anyways, I thought I'd do it from the safety of Blogspot.

Chris Brown was on Good Morning America to talk about his new album, and he attempted to gracefully bow out of probing questions that were unnecessary, even detrimental, to the promotion of this album.

Doesn't anyone remember how old he was when this all started? He's not in his 30 folks, he was 19! Everyone was a rebellious teen at some point, and we all did things we're not proud of, but that's how we learn. He's embarrassed by it and that is why he acted out recently.

I would be upset too. He doesn’t need this hanging over his head his for his whole career and it's frustrating that people are trying to use this to define his character. We really SHOULD lay off him! Too much time has passed to do anyone any good, so now you're just aggravating the past.

"Journalists" need to do their jobs and report on what's happening now! I say BAD FORM to Good Morning America and all of its affiliates for forcing it to happen. You don’t cause news to report news and that is ultimately what they’ve done here.

Feel free to debate my argument below.

If you thought she was crap then...

This week during 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', prior to Britney Spears taking the stage to perform her new single "Hold it Against Me", Johnny Knoxville shared a clip of the Jackass 3D crew subjecting her (Britney) to the infamous "Poo Cocktail Supreme".

If you've seen Jackass 3D, then you've seen Steve-O on the hot seat. If not, let me set up this mental image for you. Britney is trapped inside a porta-potty which is attached to 2 towers. She is then slingshot high into the air using bungee cords, bouncing up and down until the potty is... well... empty.

The clip shows Britney inside the potty as she is shot into the air. After a while it becomes hard to see as the camera lens becomes... dirty. That said, I'll allow you to imagination what Britney looks like. The funny part to me is they gave her goggles to wear, but they should have given her a full face mask since she spent the whole time screaming... mouth WIDE OPEN!

I won't post the video here, but if you want it I'm sure you could find it!

THE hardest working artists in the business!

So some artists are difficult to get along with, but that is NOT from the case with the FAR EAST MOVEMENT! In my opinion they could be the best thing that happened to the club scene in YEARS!
They went viral with "Like A G6" and have taken Top 40 charts by storm with "Rocketeer". Check out their new video for "OMG (If I Was You)" on their BLOG!
